As we celebrated Asamerry’s 70th anniversary in 2023, we look back at a legacy that transcends generations. Our commitment to comfort didn’t start yesterday—this is the story of the craftsmanship that came before.
In 1925, at a turning point in Japanese history, we began a prestigious tradition: providing underwear for Emperor Showa. It was the beginning of a long relationship built on mutual trust and textile excellence.
The relationship began when the Emperor visited Osaka to encourage the nascent hosiery industry. By dispatching his Grand Chamberlain to our factory, a lifelong connection was formed. For decades, Angle was honored to serve the Imperial Household.
We provided garments made from the finest materials of the era—yet they were far from extravagant. They were simple, daily essentials, but the Emperor was specific about details: he preferred drawstrings over elastic and favored a generous, relaxed fit.
Prince Kan'in Kotohito also requested specialized underwear for horseback riding, specifying that the seams be placed on the outside. This revolutionary idea for skin comfort is common today in baby clothes, but was unheard of at the time.

Serving the Imperial Household was a profound honor that pushed our craft to its limits. From tailoring to the Emperor’s exact fit to inventing outward-facing seams, these challenges defined our identity. This heritage of responding to specific needs still fuels our flexible approach to innovation today.
